Speech DefinitionArgumentative speech definition can be confusing and time consuming. There are so many different ways of defining speech and debate. In this article I want to explore some of the different types of debate and speech and how they differ from each other.I will start by introducing a few important definitions and concepts that you will need to know. When I say the debate, I am not simply talking about any kind of competition between people for supremacy. I am talking about the common language of debate. What I mean by this is when two people, usually students are on opposite sides of an argument and they present their case using the common language of speech.The most basic form of this is argumentative speeches. This is when one person presents their case in terms of common speech using persuasive language. They use a variety of words and syntax to make the audience more focused on the point.Common sense is another form of argumentative speech. In this kind of speech th e speaker uses common sense to support their arguments, or to tell the audience what they already know. Often the speaker will agree with what the speaker thinks is right, and then state a counter argument.In a way it's like someone giving a lecture in a class, but without the high level vocabulary or technical terms that are needed to make the information easier to understand. I remember when I was in school and I would make sure that I made all of my lectures short and to the point, just to avoid any kind of debate or argument.Then there is the form of speech called argumentative rhetoric. Here the speaker uses technical terms to explain things that are not as easily understood by the listener. They do this to show the audience why their point is the best choice, and that the other argument is silly and should be dismissed.A third form of speech is called the eulogy. Here the speaker is not usually trying to persuade the audience. Rather they are trying to give a message to the au dience that the speaker wants to get across.Some of the reasons why a person might give a speech are to express a private feeling, or just to support their own personal opinion. You will notice that in many cases the purpose of the speech is not to convince the audience, but rather to make them feel better.
